LIMA (WLIO) — St. Marys Memorial High School survived a 10-inning battle against Elida High School in a Western Buckeye League showdown during Division 4 district semifinal action at Fort Jennings.
Elida grabbed the early lead in the first inning when Colton Graham’s bunt created chaos on the basepaths, allowing Gabe Miley to score for a 1-0 advantage.
That score held until the fifth inning when St. Marys finally broke through. Jackson Green sent a ball through the left side of the infield, bringing home Aiden Meinerding to tie the game at one.
The game stayed deadlocked into extra innings.
In the ninth, Elida threatened to take the lead, but St. Marys’ Dyllan Fink made a diving catch in shallow left field to rob Darien Jones and keep the Roughriders alive.
An inning later, St. Marys loaded the bases with one out in the 10th before Preston Rupert drew a walk to force home the winning run.
The Roughriders claimed a 2-1 victory and advance to Friday’s district final against Sandusky Perkins at Willard.
