LIMA (WLIO) — Leipsic High School survived a late rally from Kalida High School to claim a 4-3 win in a Putnam County League showdown during Division 7 district semifinal action at Patrick Henry.
Kalida struck first in the third inning when Griffin Klausing reached on an error at first base, allowing the Wildcats to take a 1-0 lead.
Leipsic answered in the fourth after a balk brought home the tying run to even the score at one.
The Vikings took control in the fifth inning. Colin Niese delivered a two-run double over the head of the center fielder to put Leipsic ahead 3-1 before Zac Lammers followed with a fair ball down the left field line that plated another run for a 4-1 advantage.
Kalida battled back in the seventh inning and cut the deficit to one run, but with two runners on and two outs, Leipsic recorded the final out on a pop up to right field to seal the win.
The Vikings advance to the Division 7 district final and will face Edgerton on Saturday at Patrick Henry.
