SPENCERVILLE (WLIO) — Allen East used a big fourth inning to pull away from Spencerville and claim a 9-5 win in a Division VI sectional final rematch between the Northwest Conference rivals.
The Mustangs struck first in the opening inning when Liberty Hawk singled to center, allowing Sage Reynolds to slide home safely for the game’s first run.
Allen East extended the lead in the second as Reynolds delivered a base hit down the right field line to score Bronwyn Schaefer and make it 3-0.
Spencerville answered in the third behind Elise Litsey, who launched a two-run homer over the left field fence and off the roof to cut the deficit to one.
But the Mustangs broke things open in the fourth inning. Hawk added another RBI single, Harper Friesner drove in a run with a base hit up the middle and Ava Morris capped a six-run frame with a two-run single.
Allen East advances to the district semifinals, where the Mustangs will face Columbus Grove on Monday at Bath.
