WAPAKONETA (WLIO) — Two 2025 state semifinalists squared off in a non-conference baseball matchup Monday, with Coldwater holding off Wapakoneta for a 5-2 win.
The Cavaliers jumped out early in the second inning when Caleb Schroer drove in Rudy Kremer and Jake Kessen with a base hit to left, extending the lead to 3-0.
Wapakoneta answered in the third. Drew Bailey knocked in Blake Rogers before Griffin Mericle followed with an RBI single down the first base line to pull the Redskins within one.
Coldwater responded again in the fourth as Karsyn Homan delivered an opposite-field RBI single to score Kessen and push the lead back to two.
The Redskins mounted one final threat in the seventh, loading the bases with the tying run aboard, but Kessen closed the door by inducing a game-ending flyout to Bryce Couchot.
