LIMA, Ohio (WLIO) — The Lima Kiwanis Club is asking the community to help support student-oriented programs that serve more than 400 children throughout Lima and Allen County.

Tickets are now on sale for one of the organization’s largest annual fundraisers, the chicken and ham barbeque dinner. Proceeds from the event will support the club’s 13 leadership programs offered through schools, universities and agencies across the area.

Organizers say the club is continuing to expand its youth programming, with fundraising efforts focused on helping students develop leadership skills, civic engagement and volunteer experience.

“The economic support services leadership, civic engagement, it allows kids to embark upon volunteerism projects and all of those experiences allow them to be more civically minded so they can be astute citizens,” said Dr. Willie Heggins, president of the Lima Kiwanis Club.

The drive-thru-only dinner will be held Sunday, June 14, at Apollo Career Center from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Presale tickets are $15, while tickets purchased the day of the event will cost $17.
