LIMA, Ohio (WLIO) — Shawnee held off a late push from Elida to earn a 44-42 victory in a Western Buckeye League matchup Tuesday night.
The Indians, who improved to 6-2, built an early lead behind senior Morgan Betts. Strong ball movement in the first quarter led to an easy layup for Betts, who later added a long-range jumper as part of her 12-point night. Shawnee carried a five-point advantage early.
Elida answered with a strong offensive showing of its own. Junior Lilly Sifrit connected from beyond the arc to cut the deficit to two. Sifrit led all scorers with 19 points for the Bulldogs, who entered the game at 3-3.
The Bulldogs continued to battle, as junior Claire Dingledine attacked the basket for a tough finish away from the hoop, contributing 14 points. Elida stayed within striking distance throughout the contest.
Despite the Bulldogs’ late surge, Shawnee made enough plays down the stretch to secure the two-point win.
The Indians closed out the game with a 44-42 victory.
