WAPAKONETA (WLIO) — Lincolnview is headed to the district finals after a dominant performance Tuesday night at Wapakoneta High School.
The Northwest Conference champion Lancers defeated Coldwater 5-1 in a Division VI district semifinal behind a no-hit effort from sophomore pitcher Ila Hughes.
Lincolnview grabbed control early and added to its lead in the second inning. With the bases loaded, Bella Hire went the opposite way with a two-run hit to extend the advantage to 4-0.
Coldwater answered in the fourth when a ball four pitch got past the catcher, allowing Gabby Bornhorst to score from third and trim the deficit to 4-1.
But the Lancers responded again in the fifth. Hire came through once more at the plate, lining a single to center field to score Lainey Spear from second and push the lead to 5-1.
That was more than enough support for Hughes, who turned in another dominant outing in the circle. The sophomore tossed a complete-game no-hitter while striking out 10 Cavaliers.
With the win, Lincolnview advances to Thursday’s district championship game at Wapakoneta, where the Lancers will face the winner of Fairview and Liberty Center at 5 p.m.
