LIMA, Ohio (WLIO) — Local leaders and business partners met on Wednesday for training to strengthen their support for entrepreneurs.

The “Train the Trainer” session — hosted at the Lima/Allen County Chamber of Commerce — brought together partners from the Small Business Administration and other federal agencies to review new programs, initiatives and policy updates. Organizers say the training helps ensure those who work directly with small businesses have the most current information on funding opportunities, regulations and resources available to entrepreneurs. They add keeping community partners informed helps prevent setbacks and ensures businesses can access programs that help them grow and thrive.

“We don’t want our businesses getting bad information and then it causing conflict. You know, a small little hiccup in a business model could cause a huge problem,” said Nicole Scott, regional director at the Small Business Development Center for Rhodes State College. “And these are funding initiatives that they can take advantage of, whether it be loans, stipends, you know, you heard a lot about tech cred, so that’s free training that’s available. All of these things that are offered are to help our small business owners and make their small businesses operate and thrive and hopefully expand.”

The Rhodes State Small Business Development Center is encouraging people to sign up for its free six-week entrepreneurship training program starting March 3.

The program runs every Tuesday at 7:30 p.m. at the Borra Center and will be simulcast to several other locations around the region.
