LIMA, Ohio (WLIO) — Area farmers gathered today to learn more about composting and how organic material can improve soil health.

The second-annual farmers luncheon — hosted by Resource Recycling and Gossard Farm Service — brought farmers and industry experts together for educational sessions and networking. The event was open to anyone interested in agriculture and included several vendors offering equipment, financing and other resources. Organizers say the goal is to help farmers better understand the long-term benefits of using compost and other organic materials.

“Using more organic material really helps the environment. For us, it helps with helps us with our recycling, recycling natural products as well. It’s a perfect way to upcycle, recycle everything back into the ground,” said Chris Massie, executive administrator, Resource Recycling Inc.

Massie says they are looking to continue providing education and resources for farmers.
