During the event, Jerald Raypole was named Employee of the Year, and Dylan Rothgery was recognized as Officer of the Year. The institution also honored staff members who have reached 30 years of service.

Prison officials said they are proud to have employees committed to the job.

“This job is a commitment. This job, it takes dedication, resilience and perseverance, because anytime you deal with people, it is the one of the most challenging jobs that we have. And it's not lost on us here. The correctional field as a whole is a difficult task. These men and women who come to work every day, they put the work in through grit, determination and just professionalism. And I'm proud of them. I can't be more proud of them during employee week, and this is what this week's about. It's about celebrating your staff and celebrating your employees,” says Ryan Walters, warden.

The ceremony also included a moment of remembrance marking the 30th anniversary of the death of Bonita Haynes, who was killed by an inmate at the Lima Correctional Institution. Employees placed red roses at the Haynes memorial during the event.

Allen Oakwood officials said a separate remembrance ceremony is planned for Aug. 6, the anniversary of her death.
