Delphos St. John’s responded behind Easton Elwer, who knocked down a triple as the Blue Jays took a 19-15 lead after the first quarter.
In the second, Kalida turned defense into offense as Owen Grime forced a turnover and converted on the other end to cut into the deficit. However, the Blue Jays answered once again, with Tyce McClain connecting from deep to keep momentum on their side.
Late in the half, Cameron Elwer added to the lead, helping Delphos St. John’s take a 36-25 advantage into the break.
In the second half, Cameron Elwer took over. The Furman commit poured in a game-high 28 points, including an and-one finish that kept the Blue Jays firmly in control.
Kalida continued to battle, with Owen Grime leading the way with 18 points, but Delphos St. John’s maintained its cushion. Andrew Elwer added a key three down the stretch to help seal the win.
Delphos St. John’s finishes the season a perfect 29-0 and captures its first state championship since 2002. Kalida ends its run as state runner-up with a 17-12 record.
