SPENCERVILLE, Ohio (WLIO) — For the past four seasons, Owen Sensabaugh has been a rock for the Spencerville boys basketball program.
He is a two-time All-Ohio honoree and a three-time All-Northwest Conference first-team selection.
"He's a very competitive kid, a very skilled guy," said Kevin Sensabaugh. "You can tell he's worked at his game. He can handle the ball very well, he's a great passer and he can score it too."
Spencerville senior Owen Sensabaugh has been a key contributor to the boys basketball program over the past four seasons, and he developed a passion for the sport at a young age.
"I've been in basketball since I could remember anything," Owen Sensabaugh said. "It's just been through my family, my dad, obviously, with him playing in college and his whole life was around basketball, so I was around him a lot, so obviously that transferred into me a lot, so that's all I've known."
It's truly been a family affair for Owen and Kevin Sensabaugh. The father and son duo have been on the sidelines together for the last four seasons.
"It's been a pretty cool thing, and to be able to share all these experiences with him has been one of the great joys of my life," said Kevin Sensabaugh.
"It's been awesome, just being able to do it with my dad," said Owen Sensabaugh. "I know how much it means to him and our family as a whole, so it's so cool. I also get to do it with my brother as well, so it's not just my thing, it's our family's thing. It means the world to me."
When it comes to his grades, Owen is a top scholar, sporting a 4.0 GPA.
"He's a really hard worker and he's just really dedicated to getting his studies done," said Michelle Brinkman. "He has to have good time management with as busy as he is to be able to get everything done, and he just keeps everything in focus and stays focused on his goals."
After high school, Sensabaugh will attend Bowling Green State University to major in finance.
"I've always been a numbers guy," said Owen Sensabaugh. "Math has always been my, I say favorite subject, but it's really just been what I was the best at. So I've enjoyed doing things like that, and I think I can profit the most in that area with my skills."
For Owen Sensabaugh, the game of basketball has always been important. But the Bearcat senior says who you are off the court matters just as much.
"I just want people to remember me as somebody who was a positive person, whether that was in school or whether that was in sports. Through that, I was always still hardworking and competitive on the court and in school, really, but I just want to be remembered as a friend to everybody."
Congratulations to Owen Sensabaugh — our newest McDonald's Scholar Athlete of the Week of the Week.
