LIMA, Ohio (WLIO) — A high school “Random Acts of Kindness” challenge is gaining momentum across the region, with students at Shawnee High School surpassing expectations and making a measurable impact.

The challenge, led by the school’s Positive Peer Advocate program, was tossed to them by students at Lima Central Catholic High School, who initially logged nearly 600 acts of kindness. Shawnee students embraced the challenge and recorded more than 1,700 acts — a total that surprised organizers.

Random Acts of Kindness Initiative Spreads Across Area Schools

“Just simple stuff, like helping each other out, sending kind notes, being kind to each other, compliments, stuff, easy stuff like that, which we should be doing daily, anyways,” said Alydia Allison, president of the Positive Peer Advocate program.

The A-OK Random Act of Kindness Challenge was created by Lima resident John Battles as a retirement project. He said he has been impressed by the level of participation and the positive influence students have demonstrated.

Following their success, Shawnee students have now challenged Wapakoneta City Schools to surpass their total and continue spreading kindness throughout the community.
